update problem. automatically restarts and wont move from 0% 3/3 installed

    My sister has vista home basic on her laptop.
    She recently did an online update ( as you do ), it restarts the computer and come up 0% 3/3 updates installed. but wont progress from 0%. the screen then comes up with, Shutting Down. it then restarts and carries out the same procedure. even on safe mode.

    any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
