I have a Vista Home Premium labtop which had a virus on it. A friend used an antivirus tool to remove the virus, but it also damaged some windows system files. Now the labtop will not boot normally and only comes up in safe mode.

I ran sfc /scannow on the machine and it failed. The error message in the log said that it failed on:

I also enabled the Vista boot log and it had no errors, but this was the last three messages in the file before it froze on boot:

I don't have System Restore available because it was cleared by the antivirus program.

Does anyone have any ideas about how I can fix this damaged Vista install? Thanks!
