So it seems I picked up a rootkit which I gather is a very bad thing. I have a current antiviral (macafee) and have run it and the macafee rootkit remover but it still shows up. I have a recover disk done when the pc was new. Vista resides on a separate drive partition but will it also be affected by the rootkit?
So how best to proceed is my question.

    Thanks

Backup any data you don't want to lose then use the recovery disc you used to restore to factory state. Normally you boot the recovery disc.
