Hi, I'm struggling to log a Vista Home Premium laptop onto a Mac server.

Have gone through the registry editing routine and changed LmCompatibilityLevel from 3 to 1, but still no further forward. One thing I noticed is that when I enter the username set up on the Mac into the log-in dialogue Vista adds the laptop computer name followed by backslash in front. I have not seen this when logging onto other servers. Could this be the cause of my problems as I assume the Mac is not expecting to see this? If so, how can I control what is sent by the laptop during login?

My guess is that the problem is on the server end, due to two things. First, you already said that you don't have problems connecting to other servers, only to the Mac server. Second, Vista uses NTLMv2 by default; some SMB/CIFS implementations still use v1. If they don't use v2, they will not work with Vista.
