My mother's computer runs Vista and gets automatic updates. She recently replaced her monitor with flat screen from AOC. Should not have had to do anything special, but the wallpaper (Windows) has been completely overlaid by a soft black screen. We are able to change the colors of this "overlay" but can't get rid of it. If we click on Show Desktop, we can see the original wallpaper for a few seconds.

Have been through control panel and the desktop adjustments. Doing a right click out on the desktop general does not bring up anything on the menu which let's me get at this.

    Suggestions?

Did you try right click on an empty space on the desktop and choose personalise?
