i started to install service pack 2 and was able to get thru the first of 3 stages. the pc rebooted and began the second phase without any problems. when the pc rebooted for the next stage the windows boot manager appeared with the following..

    File: CI.dll
    Status: 0xc0000098
Info: required file missing or corrupt

i rebooted to launch widows startup repair and the boot manager came up again...

    Status: 0xc000000f
    Info: required device is inaccessible

what is ci.dll and how did it become corrupted or missing? how do i install sp2 now when windows fails to load only after 2 stages?

before sp2, i ran the system update readiness tool and was able to install an update successfully. but fail to install sp2. what went wrong?
