Running Vista Home Premium SP2 on a Toshiba Satellite A205.

I apologize for offering minimal symptoms, but I'm getting them from my 11-year-old grandson.

Running some kind of school math course, he may have hit a wrong (function?) key by mistake. The system beeps once, the screen freezes, and it hangs. No "not responding" message, and ctrl-alt-delete has no effect. The only option he has is to force a shutdown with the power key.

Does this make sense to anybody? Is there something I can do to get more information about the failure?
