PC SLOW/LOCKIN UP AT TIMES

    this computer is running real slow on about every program , its a 3.7ghz intel celeron D

    running 503mb ram , running windows home basic. anyhelp on this? maybe speeding it up , the cpu is running around 100% using up most of the memory. any help would be appreciated :w00t:

    Agreed with that amount of memory even Basic is going to use every bit of it but it should not slow you down that much of course we don't no how many other programs or applications you have going either. Defragging and cleaning up your files might help as well. You can stop unnecessary services from running as well. Also take a look at your task manager and see how many and what processes are currently running unneeded or unwanted processes can greatly slow things down also if there a bunch of unfamiliar things running this could point to a virus or several. My advice would be to download a good free antivirus such as Avast or AVG i prefer Avast b/c of the option to do a boot time scan,if your PC is already running slow as molasses scanning during boot up can greatly ease some frustration and it is more effective at getting some little nasties such as rootkits.

    Try turning off all visual styles, and resource hungry services like search indexing. Check the tweaks section for help. Like said, get more ram at leaste 1 GB for vista.
