old pc not connecting properly on net

    My compaq presario pc..was sitting in the storage since 2009.. Only recently trying to ressurect it. Possibly it is too old and i might be fighting a losing battle. Was able to get it connected via modem (right now iam on tablet) - internet option page says iam connected and the status/signal is good. But after trying to setup wifi it said there is no connection. A friend suggested i do the following:

    Ipconfig/release
    Ipconfig/renew

    In command prompt dialog box..message reads "media not connected"

    Any clues?
