Just got vista no sound please help asap :(

    Hi, I just reformatted from windows xp to windows vista and my sound isnt working I dont know alot about sound drivers I tried installing a few but none worked. Here is my information:

    Check your sound card driver, to see if it's working properly. If not then go to your computers manufacturers website (ex. www.hp.com, www.gateway.com ect.) and download the drivers. Hope it helps.

    i had the same problem when i installed over xp had to do a clean install to fix the problem

    This is nearly always the case in moving from XP to Vista because MS has completely redone their sound architecture for Vista, which is another way of saying, that practically none of the XP sound cards or chips work right off in Vista.

    In many cases, though, Vista has been able to detect the sound chip and install a driver through windows update.

    As already mentioned, you will have to get the drivers from the provider of either the motherboard (for onboard sound) or the sound card (for plugin card).

    Once you determine the model sound chip (for onboard sound), you will need to google with that model number and "vista" to locate sound drivers. If it's one of the more well known chips (i.e., cmedia, realtek), you should have no problem locating Vista drivers.
