I have Vista Home Premium. Recently, when I turn the laptop on, IE8 opens at the start. It is not listed in the msconfig startup section. It is not in the startup programs listed in Software Explorer.

I uninstalled IE8 completely and reinstalled. This made no difference, so I suspect it is something in the OS rather than in IE8.

Any suggestions as to how to stop this please?

    Thanks

Have you tried running MSCONFIG from the command line, opening the Startup tab and unchecking all the items?

If it still launches, I would be concerned that some malware tacked something onto your shell invocation line in the registry.

I have unchecked many items, but not all. Don't some items have to run at start up?

I have run all sorts of malware checks and have found nothing. Can I manually check the shell invocation line?

Just want to make sure I understand completely.
Do you mean IE8 Welcome page opens up or the actual IE8 browser opens up at start up ?
