I cant sycronize time and vista cant find updates

For some reason when I try to sycronize my time it says "an error occured when trying to sycronize time". It does not matter which website I pick it happens with all of them. Also, my windows update is screwing with me. It says "Windows could not search for new updates". When I click "get help" it tells me to do things that dont happen like to enter cridentials on screen when prompted. Please help me. Yes, I am connected to the internet.

 

My guess is that two of the Vista services are not running:

1) Windows Time -- this does the time synchronization

2) Windows Update -- this does the update stuff



You check your services through Administrative Tools --> services



The status on both services should be "started", and the startup type should be manual or automatic. If either is "disabled", that will cause the problems you're experiencing. In that case, try to start both of the services.



If they are running, don't know what else to suggest.

 

I can. Boot to the Vista DVD and repair installation if above method doesn't resolve the situation.
