How to recover user's profile from full backup?

My wife's collection of videos and pictures was growing large and I installed a new disk just to house her home directory. I renamed her profile directory from C:\Users\i to C:\Users\ii, mounted the new disk as C:\Users\i and moved all (?) files from ii\ to i\.

I am guessing, the profile (ntuser.dat?) did not move for some reason... Now, when she tries to login, she gets a message that her profile could not be loaded and a temporary one will be used until she logs out...

"Recipes" out there talk about creating a new user-account and copying data files -- I'd rather not do that, because her settings will be lost.

We run full backups (to a SMB-share hosted by another computer) regularly -- there is a backup from 3 days ago. But, when I use Vista's "Backup tool" to search it for "ntusers.dat", I see entries for all user accounts briefly flash in the search window, but then they disappear -- and the tool claims, nothing matching "ntusers.dat" was found (not even the ntusers.dat.LOG1).

Is the file, indeed, there? What sort of a "full backup" is it, if it isn't? How do I recover it? Thank you!
