I accidentally changed the default file type for a shortcut file (.lnk) using the "open with" command. Now all shortcuts on my PC open with that file. How can I reset to defaults?

the shortcut filetype is now associated to one prgram (windows explorer) therefore any shortcuts that I make open explorer. Even if I could make new ones i'd have to completely re-build my start menu, and windows shortcuts.

I think your gonna have to get into your registry. Is this with VISTA cause i dont see the option to open with. Now if its XP then you could try downloading the zip file on this site.

Yes it's Vista. I actually tried that site earlier but no luck. Thanks for your suggestions - need to find what to adjust in the registry.

I guess you could try the system restore and restore back to a earlier piont, before the change.
