skip to the bottom for the actual question

i recently messed up my windows installation on my computer, luckily i had ubuntu installed already and it still works.
i tried to reinstall windows vista but got the error code:
    0x80004005

i googled it and i all the solutions to fix it need a working copy
of windows (which i havent got)

does anyone know how you can fix this error for ubuntu?
    thanks.

Unfortunately, there's no way to legally download a copy of Vista anymore. Microsoft posts image files of Windows 7 SP1 through it's download provider, but they don't make Vista available anymore.

About all you can do, if your PC came preinstalled witn Vista, is contact the PC supplier and see if they will sell you a set of full-restore optical media (probably a DVD). That will be a LOT cheaper than going out and buying Win7 retail.
