factory restore

    trying to do a factory restore but keeps saying error tried system restore tried lots of antivirus for regerstry errors using" preinstalled vista with sp2 update" also windows update won't work error message can anyone advise thanks

    Factory restore typically is done by pressing a Function key (or booting from a restore CD) and then running some software. Telling us "saying error" is not particularly useful.

    Have you messed with the hard drive in any way (adding/removing/resizing partitions)?

    Have you installed another OS on the PC (Linux distro)?

    If you haven't, factory restore SHOULD work. If you can't restore by yourself, since your PC, according to your statement, came preinstalled with Vista with SP2, you need to contact the PC supplier to see what they will do for you. They might sell you a set of disks you cam use to restore your PC.

    Another possibility is that your hard drive is failing. To check that out, you need to find out the make and model of the drive, and then go to the manufacturer's website to see if they have a drive diagnostic utility you can download and run.
