    I have a Seagate Momentus 100Gb SATA 2.5" HDD in a G-Tech USB 2.0 interface enclosure.

This works fine if plugged into a winXP machine, will transfer data both ways acceptably fast and keep running all day.

Plug it into Vista (6.0.6001 Service Pack 1) and it will be recognised initially, but if I start to transfer data it will run for about 15 seconds and then brick - the drive operating light is on, but the data transfer hangs and Vista sits there telling me 15 seconds left (or whatever). After a further delay of about 30-60 seconds, the drive disappears out of disk management console and is no longer listed as a USB device.

This is happening on my two Vista machines (AMD Turion Laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo desktop) so my feeling is the common factor is Vista.

Anyone come across this, or any information to explain it? And hopefully a solution?

    Cheers,

    Steve

This is, unfortunately, becoming a common problem in Vista. There are some posts in the Drivers forum. Try checking those out.
