I have an old HP laptop...dual boot with vista and windows 8

Vista operating system would not detect the Ethernet cable when I attach the modem

It works fine on Windows 8 but not on Vista

When I opened Network Places, I notices that the Ethernet icon is missing

I have tried updating the drivers but of no use

Can anyone suggest any troubleshooting steps??

    PFA the screenshot

What does Device Manager show for Network Adapters?
Is it a onboard NIC or a add-on PCI card?
    Make and model of computer?
