    SOLVED: Was caused by MS Internet Explorer Beta 2. I just uninstalled this and after the mandatory reboot, Windows Explorer is back to normal.

    This just started happening, perhaps in the last few days. I just want explorer to show the double clicked folder or drive in the same window, same as if I right click 'explore' on a folder item.

    These are the things I've tried so far:

    1) Control Panel -> Folder Options -> Open each folder in the same window

    2) Uninstall all software installed in the last week (except nVidia driver and Internet Explorer 8 beta 2). Will uninstall these as soon as I can reboot.

    3) Downloaded ShellExView (shexview) and disabled every explorer extension except 2 that are required to run explorer at all.

    4) Ran Regedit and checked HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell for value other than 'none'

    5) Run command regsvr32 /i shell32.dl to restore some shell default behavior

    6) Regedit check HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder and copy all common values from another working Vista install.

    Please help if you can. A Google search shows a few people with the same issue but no working solutions.

    Edit: Added more things tried.

    Edit: Solved!

    Hi, I had the same problem and I resolved following these steps:

    - copy the values data of
    COMPUTER\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\comma nd : (Default) and
    DelegateExecute to

    COMPUTER\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\explore\co mmand respectively
    but delete the word /separate from de default value and, in case,
    DelegateExecute does not exists create and paste the value of
    DelegateExecute from the Open Key.

    At the end, You will have the following value in the key
    COMPUTER\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\explore\co mmand :

    (Default) -> "%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /idlist,%I,%L" .

    DelegateExecute -> value of

    After that, the parameter works ok, means, if you select open each
    folder in the same window or open in its own windows, works as should

    The final Internet Explorer 8 has been released and this issue still occurs if I install it.

    Nou Bary, the registry items you mention are already set as you describe except that my shell\explore\command also includes a parameter /e. Adding or taking this parameter from either key has no apparent effect, at least it does not solve this problem.
