    Hi all,

The disk space on my Windows Vista machine has been disappearing very mysteriously. I tried what lots of pages on the Internet suggested, which is to remote restore points and shadow copies, but apparently I don't have any of these. I tried a virus scan and a SpyBot scan, and I also downloaded CCleaner, but none of the above helped me figure out what the problem was, and none solved it. The disk space is disappearing ridiculously fast, on the order of say 100MB disappearing in an hour. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

    Thanks!

The following take up space on an ongoing basis:

    1) Email retrieved from a server and stored locally, especially if it contains embedded pictures

    2) Temporary internet files -- saves copy of every site you visit every time you visit it

    3) Windows Updates -- saves copy of all the older system files being updated

Also, every time you install an app, a System Restore point gets created.

You can run the disk cleanup wizard to remove some of the files.
