I tried to add my hp printer to my new laptop with vista, I get this message: print spooler is disabled or has no enabled devices assocated with it. What does this mean?

It means your Print Spooler service is not running.

To check it, do the following:

    1) right-Click Computer, select Manage

    2) Expand Services and Applications

    3) Click Services

    4) Scroll down the list to Print Spooler

What does it say under Status and Startup Type?

I am also facing this type of issues, I understand that you are having issues with the print spooler and printing from your Windows 8.1 PC to your HP OfficeJet 5740 Printer. I can certainly assist you with that.

First, we'll turn on your Print Spooler. To do so:
On your PC go to your search bar and do a Search for Component Services.
On the screen that pops up click on Services (Local) on the left hand side.

    1)On the right side,

    2)scroll down to Print Spooler.

3)Right-click on Print Spooler and click on Start.

This will turn on the spooler so that you will be able to install the software again.
Let me know if you are able to print after doing this. If not, then please let me know if you have any lights on the printer or any messages on the printer display screen.
