I aquired a HP Compaq nc6400 laptop from work with no hard drive installed.
I have since purchased and installed a 500 Gb hard and a Vista 32 bit OS.

When i turn on with the disc in the drive, Vista goes through the initial information gathering then starts to install.
At first re-boot however, I get the message 'A disc read error occured - Ctrl, Alt, Delete to restart' and on re-start I keep getting the same message.

The machine previously worked on XP Pro with no problems. I have also checked the HP support site and it does say that Vista 32 bit is supported by the machine

    Am I missing something ???

    Any guidance/advice greatly appreciated

    Rgds
