I have a DELL Inspiron E1505 laptop with 2GB RAM and 99 GB of HDD free-space.
For various reasons, it became necessary to restore the PC to "factory-fresh" x86 condition.
That part went well. It even managed to check for updates and install about 100 of them.
But IE (version 7) just wouldn't work so I resolved to install version 9.

That meant I had to install Service Pack 1, and then Service Pack 2, followed by IE-9.
This all took awhile but was trouble-free, and IE-9 actually works.

However, I can't get it to successfully check for any updates - it just sits there seemingly forever.
I have in-hand, several updates that I learned about in various forums but they won't install either.
    They are:

    KB3078601, KB3109094, KB3145739, KB3153199, KB3185911, KB3191203, KB3203859,
    KB3204723, KB3204724, KB3205638.

When I try to install any of these, the stand-alone installer stalls checking for updates.
I don't know of any other prerequisite updates but I really need to get this done.

I'd be grateful for any constructive suggestions that will get this thing working.

    Thanks,
    -Bill

Adding on, I got ALL the above KBs installed and STILL no results for checking for updates!
    At my wit's end!
