Have a 64 bit HP Pavilion Home Premium desktop that has become corrupted and we'd like to get it back to factory settings.

I can access System Recovery, and the first step is formatting the hard drive. It stays on that screen for at least 15 minutes with the completion pct never moving off 0%. It eventually errors with a 1002 msg, saying I should contact HP for support. Right!!!

If I use a Vista 64 CD (not from HP - an iso image I downloaded and burnt using another computer), I'm on the green and blue Vista screen (after I press any key to boot from CD, and after it finishes loading Windows) for just over 8 minutes (I actually timed it - twice) with no writing or images on the screen - just a cursor, before it gives me a BSOD
