I have a strange problem that i cannot play mms protocol in IE. i checked my
wmp11 then in tools>options, there is only burn tab, all other tabs are gone.
can any one help me with this or a method to repair wmp11 in vista or some kb
article?

Try this:

Control Panel (Classic view) > Default Programs > "Set your default programs"
link > highlight Windows Media Player and press "Set this program as default".

[If you press the lower green arrow ("Choose defaults for this program"), at the
very bottom of the list you will see the MMS protocol.]

The MMS protocol has *never* been directly supported within IE. Could you
clarify exactly what you're trying to do? All MMS HREFs are invalid. If
you wish to link to an MMS stream, you should wrap the reference within an
ASX.

Oh, your WMP is broken. That's much different.

What changed before this happened to you?
What's the URL in question anyways? If it's "mms://", that's not supported
and the person using that link is in error.

What software did you install to this machine? Somebody broke wmp.dll .
Did you install the buggy SatelliteTVforPC 2006?

Can you a do a system restore? That would be ideal. =\

What's the value of:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\
CLSID\{6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6}\InprocServer32
?

No, there is no ordinary mechanism for fixing this short of an OS
reinstall/update as you did.

Nobody should be touching the WMP registration, really - something did, and
I'd love to know who did and get them to stop.
