This is a fantastic question but I think the Johan response lacks some
chacter. I switched from Windows XP Pro to Vista recently after losing my
MPEG for QuickTime after upgrading to its' newer version. If you need a new
MPEG decoder every time you do an update or upgrade, what's the since of
buying a decoder in the first place. I upgraded to Vista Home Premium mainly
for the Media Center. It plays DVD with a built in decoder. Media Player
requires an MPEG decoder to be bought from a third party; personally, I'd
rather stay away from third partys'. Bear in mind, I've only been doing this
computer thing for just over a year, but I've put in a reasonably amount of
time and money to find out what I know; and have a whole lot more to learn.
So far, I find Media Center "the Bomb"! But am trying to find out whether I
should uninstall the Media Player and just use the Media Center, which seems
to do more than the Media Player which seems to work better only with an
annual paid subscription to a "third party" (such as URGE).
