Mike,there is no problem with it starting in Selective Mode.
I always have my XP and Vista doing it.
All selective mode means is that you, or a Tech, has taken some program/s
out from starting at startup.
Also, you might not want to run particular programs at startup.
A lot of people take Programs out from startup to make it start up quicker!
If you have Games, whatever; you don't need to start them at startup; just
double-click the desktop icon.
