My Vista System Restore dosen't work

Every time I try to run System Restore I get an error message saying that
the restore was unsuccessful because of an error. Try again with a
different date.

Any suggestions on how I can restore my System Restore?

If you are running Norton Internet Security, turn off its application
protection until System Restore completes successfully.

Thanks for the replies. I suspect that Norton 360 is the culprit. I didn't
know how to "turn off" N360. I tried disabling the antivirus and the
firewall. That didn't work.

I have (had!) Norton Internet Security, so this might not apply to you.

In NIS, you go to Settings, then find the Miscellaneous button or tab. Look
for a setting to ... Oh hell, I can't remember. Hang on while I boot
another computer.

OK, I'm back. Under Settings | Miscellaneous Settings, in the area labeled
Product Security, turn off "Norton Product Tamper Protection".

Revert the setting after a successful System Restore.

This has worked for me many times, although often I remember only after a
failed first attempt at System Restore.

Since you have a different product, the exact sequence might be different
even if the setting exists, but the above should provide a clue, if we're
lucky.

I have the same problem, tried multiple solutions for two days,
including those as Larry above. I followed your instructions, and
achieved a successful restore right off.

Thanks for sticking on my case Gene. I did get a "successful system
restore" by disabling Norton 360... until after system restart.

Here's an interesting fact for you and Larry: IIRC, I learned about this
solution form newsgroups, so it's only fair that I pass the info along.

Although I don't recall exactly where I leaned about Norton's self
protection, I *do* know that I have learned many solutions to other
problems of my own on these NGs.
