I don't know why Vista Movie Maker doesn't have capture from VCR like XP
did, but I've been using Roxio 9.

Finally getting used to it, but I still prefer MovieMaker.

You get quality choice -- HQ, SP or LP.

Is there any point in using HQ to capture a movie on a VCR? Or can Roxio
actually improve the quality?

Now DVDMaker:

It'll will put an 8G MPG on a 4.3G DVD.

It seems to compress/downsize automatically, but does quality suffer?
