Html links not formatted correctly in windows mail

Okay, so I've had a set of standard emails set up for my customers for a
long while and all worked fined under XP with Netscape, Firefox or IE and
Thuderbird or Outlook express. However, my new Vista Home Pro laptop with
Windows Mail won't format the linked html correctly.

Basically, when I click on a standard link, all the formatting (the <br>
tags) show in the email. HTML formatting is selected, but it is all fouled
up in Windows mail. Any suggestions? An example of the HTML link I use is
below - the [items] are pulled from my database and it is doing that
correctly. It is not however setting the subject (the subject lines come out
blank) and everything from "Dear..." on appears exactly as shown below in
the body of the email. I haven't been able to find anything about windows
mail using different tags or anything.

mailto:[customers email]?&subject=Your Order No [order number] has been
processed&Body=Dear [customer name]:<br><br>Thank you for your
order.<br><br>It was processed today and the item(s) ordered from the
manufacturer(s). We will let you know as soon as they arrive and ship to
you. Generally, items ship within 5-10 business days. If you must have them
by a certain date, please let us know as soon as possible and we will try
our best to accomodate your requirements.<br><br>If you have any questions,
please contact us. You can also log back into the site at any time to check
your status or view your order(s).<br><br>Thanks

Any help would be appreciated - it slows down my order notifications a lot
by having to do this all by hand again

Your mistake comes from assuming that they are set up to use HTML. I
believe that WinMail is automatically set to read all messages in Plain Text
as a security measure.

You have two separate problems.
1.The HTML formatting is not showing correctly even though your Windows
Mail is configured for HTML.
2. You can't control how your customers have their email configured.
Some will be set for plain text. In order to accommodate the lowest common
denominator, you will have to compose your message to your customers
in plain text. This in turn will make Problem #1 moot.

Thats fine but how to I get it to put in line breaks? Thats my problem. I
want a carriage return, not <br><br> in the message.

Well duh. But this doesn't work in an hmtl mailto link, which is my
question.

I solved the problem of the subject not being sent to windows mail, but
haven't been able to get my body text to format correctly because it won't
send carriage returns.

Can you use %13 for a carriage return? I don't know if you would
also need the linefeed code, which is %10.
