This problem may be caused by an incompatible antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
and Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

I have installed Trend Micro anti virus, anti spyware 2008. I have disabled
the email scanning feature. I am still having problems with extended delays
in replying, forwarding etc and will still have to restart at least once to
get it to work at all.

Now what? Thanks !

Some of the more recent Trend antivirus programs also cause
problems in Windows Mail.

Click on Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then Properties.
If there is no check mark in the box before Include this account when
receiving mail or synchronizing, click on this box and then Apply. Click
on OKand then Close.

Click on Tools, then Options, then Send. If there is no check in the box
before Send messages immediately, click on this box and then Apply.
Click on OK.

To narrow down the culprit, uninstall your third party security
software. Reboot, then try Windows Mail again.
