Problem: I am unable to connect to the internet.
I have a new build dual boot system with Vista x64 SP 1 Home Premium on C: drive Seagate 120G 7200, XP Home Edition SP 2 on E: drive Seagate 160G 7200. A third Seagate 500G is for games, etc. Vista was installed first and the internet connection works. XP works well except I cannot make an internet connection. I have a Linksys WRB54G router which takes its internet connection from my cable company's modem. I have 4 ethernet connection points: 1 goes to a desktop, another goes to a notebook, the third goes to the computer in question and the fourth is unused. This router also has wireless capability. My build chassis is a Thermaltake "Kandalf" LCS, 1000W CoolerMaster, XFX 790i Ultra MB, Core2 Duo E8500 at 3.16 GHz, 4gig Corsair DDR3 in two 2gig sticks, two XFX 9800GX2 in quad SLI, a cd/dvd drive, and a floppy, kb, and mouse. Motherboard has two ethernet ports, one in use (Vista).
I am not familiar enough with networking to know how to proceed. The Connection Wizard is no help, 'specially since I don't know what I am doing . Looking for help.

Sounds like your problem is with connecting to the internet with XP, not with Vista, right?

Since we're a "Vista forum", I think you can understand that we're not prepared to take on a long and involved troubleshooting session for XP-related problems ...

But, a few things you could try include:

1) Once in XP, open a command windows and try to ping your router. You'll have to connect to your router from your Vista OS to get the IP address. If the PING times out with no responses, that means that XP can't talk to the router. That points to router configuration problems.

2) take the router out of the loop and connect the cable modem network cable directly to your PC and boot into XP. If you get a network connection, it's something wrong with the router -- and that could be LOTS of things.
