when i click on the windows mail icon i get a screen that pops up with access
to all of my email, along with a log on screen. also there is a screen that
says windows mail. it has three icons that say hide, stop, details. under the
error tab there is a red dot then the words

Account: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC17

It just started doing this about thirty minutes ago.

0x800CCC17 USER_CANCEL User canceled operation.

Sorry, but this is the first I've heard of this happening at startup. Are
you closing the logon window or logging on?

You got too many things going on at the same time for you to keep
track of. In Windows Mail, go to Tools, Options, and on the General tab
that comes up, uncheck "Send and receive messages at startup."
Enable the next box, "Check for messages every 10 minutes."

When you get that error message again, there should be a preceding
sentence that says something like, "The connection to the server was
interrupted." Include that sentence when you post the next error message.
