can't view thumbnails or preview photos

I have children, and think they may have made some change that I don't know
about and don't know how to fix. I had previously been able to view my
thumbnails and preview pictures using Windows picture and fax, and now my
thumbnails just have the icon on them and when I select "preview", it does
nothing. If anyone knows how I can fix this, PLEASE let me know. Thanks

same thing has happened to me. its really annoying, can anyone help?

I am having the same problem...monitor my thread..."Desktop and
thumbnails View error". I have also posted some screenshots of the
screens that I get. See if it matches your problems. May be we can solve
this together.

Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Folder Options>View tab...
ensure that "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is not checked.
