Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving,
and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting
changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your
up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For
more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx3

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the
program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the
option arises.

Tell us in more detail what you tried: the name of your antivirus =
program,
what setting you changed, etc. Some antivirus programs keep interfering
with email even when scanning is ostensibly disabled.

Norton security products are among the top three troublemakers for=20
Windows Mail. First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the=20
reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...g/index.htm=20

Disabling Norton's email scanning is sometimes insufficient. If so,
do a trial uninstall, followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support...5033108162039=

Reboot your computer, then test Windows Live Mail again. If successful,
you can try reinstalling Norton, but use 'custom' install, which should
give you an opportunity to skip installing the email scanning function.

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to=20
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of =
overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail=20
