This is the error message: The message could not be sent. The authentication
setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help
solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and
read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help
determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service
provider.

Server Response: '550 5.1.1 relaying not allowed', Port: 25, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

The settings with Cox are correct. Any ideas?

Does your connection to the server go through any other internet provider's
equipment before it gets to cox.net? If so, such connections to port 25 are
often blocked to cause trouble for spammers.

Does the error message you get change if you turn off SSL for this server?

Are you connecting from an away-from-home location?

Also, make sure the box for "My server requires authentication"
is checked.

What e-mail error do you get?
Incidentally, if you are using Outlook you should post this issue in the
Outlook newsgroup.

To what ISP are you connected?
What port are you set to use for outgoing mail?
What security options are checked?

Servers tab: My server requires authentication or Use Secure Password
Authentication.
Advanced tab: either of the SSL options
