| Ok so I picked up a copy of vista ultimate today...and well things didn't turn out as expected.
I get this error after the compatibility report during installation:
Close Windows installation and contact the device manufacturer for updated driver software for these devices:
o IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers: Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller
HELP? |

| Are you installing on a clean drive (no OS already existing), or are you attempting to upgrade an XP installation? IF the latter, did you install XP yourself, or did the machine come with XP preinstalled?

| OK, so since you installed XP yourself, you know about the need for drivers to be loaded as part of the installation. What you will need is chipset drivers for Vista; the XP drivers probably won't work.
However, if you're installing Vista from inside XP (as I suspect you are), Vista would already have loaded the drivers for XP and should have no problem loading the drivers for Vista. When is the Vista installation failing?
