Has anyone her actually tried this -- and verified that it works?

Also, has anyone done this and later activated their copy for real -- and verified that works?

Just so you know, I don't condone piracy myself. I have an unactivated version of Ultimate 32-bit that I've been extending month after month using the slmgr rearm option. I have the legitimate OEM DVD with a real product key -- so, this isn't a warez version.

But, I've been delaying the activation because I continue to have hardware problems, have been experimenting with different hardware, and applying driver updates weekly. I've read on the MS forums about how driver updates now break activation and put you into the 3-days-to-activate mode.

So, I'm interested in some kind of "interim" activation that I could do until the hardware and driver bugs get sorted out -- one that I can reset myself if it gets
"broken". Then, later, when all that is stable, I can reset activation using the legitimate product key later.

So, if anyone know for a fact that this scenario works, please let me know.
