I can not get my on board sound card to work.  I bought an Xtreme 7.1 sound card.  Did not find an updated driver from the Diamondmm web site.  Even went on line with a Diamond tech and they do not have a vista driver for it.

Any ideas?

Jerry

Have the same problem. Waiting for new driver. Vista updates displays a message like "C-media can solve this problem..." But I lost that link.

I figured out a cheap fix, and I do not take responsibility for any damage... if any... I have used this process, and have had no problems.

I tried the default Vista driver that installed when it found my hardware, but all i could get was 2.1 sound... so this fixes that, and gives me true 5.1 surround.

-Put in the CD that came with your sfx card
-Now open the CD so you can view the contents.
-Open the folder called "Drivers"
-Now, right click on the "Xtreme Sound Driver.exe" and goto Properties
-In the "Compatibility" tab,
-check the box for Compatibility Mode and change that to "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)"
-Now Click "Apply" then "OK"
-Run "Xtreme Sound Driver.exe"
-Restart Computer.
Now, some of the functions in the "PCI 3D Audio Config" dialog box do not work.
Most of your changes will need to take place in the default Vista Sound config, in the control Panel.
But, for now. You will have a quick fix for 5.1/7.1 surround, till they release a fully compatible version.

Enjoy!
