no audio with Vista & Soundblaster X-Fi
Posted 3/23/2008 2:53:37 PM

I installed an audio card (Sound Blaster X-Fi model SB046APCS) and I can't
hear any sound comming out of my PC (I build it myself). The sound tests
tell me everyting is working OK and that there are no confilcts with the
card. Yesterday I downloaded the Vista audio driver
SBXF_PCDVT_LB_2_15_0004.exe from Creative and still no sound. When
performing the diagnostics, I can see a green color going up and down in the
sound bar but thats all.

I have an Intel DX38BT motherboard, do I have to disable whatvever options
there are for audio in the BIOS or the motherboard disables it when it
detects an audio card installed?

The sound card is recognized by the hardware manager.

I have run out of ideas, so, any suggestions?

My email is rubengal@onelinpr.net.

The dvd burners installed are the Plextor 810SA (sata) and the Memorex dvd
burner(model 32023220). I have placed the music cd in both, with the same
result, no sound can be heard.

The speakers I am using are the JBL Creature (which works OK on my other pc).

Instead of relying on the system to sort out any issues, I would have
uninstalled the drivers for the onboard audio, deleted the device from Device
manger, restarted, and definitely disabled all onboard audio features in the
BIOS - all before I plugged in the new sound card and began its installation.
I don't exactly know how you went about it.
Another alternative is that there is a problem with the sound card. The
sound card could think it's OK, but I doubt it monitors things after the
output stage.

Did you try a pair of headphones in the front speaker output jack?

Kind of a pain: can you try the board in another PC? (I know I wouldn't want
to do that either if I could avoid it at all). Best of luck...

Hi Mary,

You need to install your audio driver. What is the make and model of your
laptop? If you reply with that information, I should be able to point you in
the right direction for your drivers. Don't forget to state whether you are
running 32-bit or 64-bit Vista.

does the solution for mary's problem also fix the SP1 'no sound device
installed' problem after downloading update. i have toshiba satellite A200.
Device manager shows error '6TO4' network adaptor only, no errors under sound
as far as i can tell. have checked for new updates - still no sound. any
suggestions appreciated
