I have a set of 10 wireless laptops (no 1 - 10) and i would like them to be
able to share files on any one of the laptops

What's the best way to set that up?

You get a wireless NAT router that provides the networking, and you set
the O/S on the machine to do MS File and Printer sharing. You may have
to set the firewall on each machine to allow File and Print sharing too.

You are entering into post XP networking Hell if you want to set custom
permissions for sharing particular folders/files.
The permission settings are arcane and non-intuitive. Even worse, the
settings you laboriously create may work for a time and then no longer work.
Microsoft will deny that instability exists but I doubt there is a single
user who has not experienced it.
Microsoft wants to force you to use the "Public" folders for this purpose.
If that suits you then what you propose will be easier to accomplish. If you
are not familiar with networking I recommend you start there.
You will have to set up programs on each computer to save files, like
documents and images, to Public folders.
If you use the firewall built into Vista/Win7, and there is absolutely no
reason for most people to use anything else despite what you may have read,
then there should be no problems with the firewall.

please follow Usenet custom and QUOTE the post you are replying to.

Thank you.

In article , reply@the.board
says...

Buy a Windows HOME Server and share files from it - it will also act as
a backup server for your laptops.

Sharing files between windows stations for someone that doesn't already
have the experience should be a test/play thing, you will have to
disable the windows firewall and since they are laptops you run the risk
of them being compromised - worse if they leave your location.

You could also buy a NAS drive, a network shared hard drive, and
everyone could share files through that.
