| When i.e. is selected from the desktop it will not connect. If a link within a program is used i.e. connects and works as advertised.
I have looked at all of the Microsoft sites and many others (from google) but all say that i.e. is part of Vista so cannot be fixed. My Vista Home Premium came pre-loaded without a disk (from Acer), so I cannot do a repair installation of Vista. Any suggestions?

What are you seeing when you click the IE icon? Need more info than "will not connect".

If you mean, cannot be removed and reinstalled, that's correct. As to "fixed", depends on what the problem happens to be. Lots of problems are due to folks loading add-ons that don't work.

Yes ... find out how to make a recovery CD. Consult your documentation or contact Acer. You will absolutely need such a CD handy. Without it, you will not be able to boot into Vista to do any repairs at all.
