Okay, so i recently bought a new 500GB SATA 2.5" Internal Hard Drive for my Dell Inspiron1501 using Vista Home Basic 32Bit. I took my old hard drive and backed up all of the files i deemed nesseary on a seperate external, than shut it down, and swaped the hard drives. When i rebooted, i instered the vista installation disc, and i began to run through set-up. The error came when the box said it could not transfer files from D:\Sources to C:\$Windows.~LS\Sources, and error code 0x80070001. I have looked it up, but the only info i can find is when backing up your fils, not installing from strach. I ran through installation again, and shut it down when it asked me to install again. Now, every time i start the computer up, it boots Dell, and before it can boot windows, it says BOOTMNG is missing, even though the boot CD is in. Please offer any assistance.

Thanks very much,
Matt

If you're trying to migrate your preinstalled Dell Vista setup to a new drive, the best solution is the following:
1) obtain a third-party product that does drive imaging (Ghost, Paragon, Acronis True Home) that comes on a bootable CD
2) hook up your new drive as an external
3) wipe the new drive entirely of partitions
4) boot with the drive imaging CD and migrate the existing partitions (and MBR) from your current drive to the new drive
5) shutdown the system
6) remove the old drive, replacing it with the new drive
7) reboot

If you have problems rebooting, you may have to insert the Vista media and do a Startup Repair.

Under no circumstances have BOTH drives hooked up during an installation.
