| | OK, this is probably just me being an idiot and not knowing much about computers, but; i got a Sony VAIO laptop yesterday, vista and everything else set up automatically etc, but i can't get on the internet (using WLAN) for some reason. it detects the router, i type in the key etc, and it says its connected to the network, but then when i open explorer it 'cannot display the webpage.' the diagnosis comes up with nothing useful, and all the settings seem to be right, so i can't figure out what's wrong. Help??? |

| We've got some pinned posts in the forum that have diagnostic steps that can be performed to try and troubleshoot the problem, but a couple of simple things you could try are the following:
1) Open a command shell and type "ping www.intel.com". If it works, you'll get four lines of text, indicating the time it took to reach the website. If you get anything else, that means you're not getting Domain Name Service.
2) Try using Firefox instead of IE. If you can connect with FF but not IE, then it's your IE settings that are the problem.
