The "freeware" AV products, with a few well-known exceptions, are malware themselves. What you did was download the very stuff that will damage your machine.

You only have two options: restore or reinstall. Try to do a System Restore to a date before you did the downloads. If that doesn't work, you will have to reinstall Vista. If you have a DVD, you can use that. If your machine came with Vista preinstalled, you will have to find out from your documentation how to do a system recovery. It's typically done by pressing F11 or F12 upon boot -- but it varies by machine.

I'm sorry i actually meant i download avira antivir and superantispyware. surely those are not malware themselves? i mean majorgeeks.com have said it's not virus infected and cnet.com says both are good freewares?

Hmm, is there really no other way than to reinstall vista? i actually dont have any restore points so it sucks for that but yeah.

Thanks for your time to help

I don't know about those two products specifically, but I think Kaspersky has a free trial that can be downloaded. You could try that.

If your system is already infected (which it sounds like it is), the malware typically hoses your system so that you either (1) can't run "real" antivirus software, or (2) can't install new "real" antivirus software.

The link below is to a page that presents some info on Vista-certified AV products:

http://www.windows-vista-update.com/Windows_Vista_Antivirus.html

If you can't run or install any of these, system reinstallation or recovery are then your only options.
