Are these strictly Vista-related downloads?

If so, this should have been posted in the Vista downloads forum.

Also, given that a particular DLL might actually be different from one version of Vista to another, how is the requestor to know which specific version of the DLL to request?

I'm moving this to Vista Downloads -- also adding the following disclaimer ...

************************** Warning ****************************
Unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing -- do not download DLLs.

The websites listed here provide apps that CLAIM to search your
machine and figure out which DLLs you need. If they work, fine.

If they don't, Vista will be hosed and might require a complete
REINSTALL in order to work.

This sort of low-level "hacking" is for experts only.

good query!

well answer is windows always prompt for dll or any system that is used by any living or running process and you get a error msg on desktop screen.... i don't think you never faced such kind of problem.

thanks

You miss the whole point of my disclaimer ...

The sites you so eagerly point to allow folks to download ANY DLLs.

While you might argue that common sense would dictate that folks would only download and overwrite the DLLs that an app specifically indcates, having read hundreds of support requests here, I can tell you from my experience, that relying on common sense to prevent folks from doing the wrong stuff is foolish.

So, a disclaimer at least alerts the folks to potential damage they could do -- and might be enough to disuade them from experimenting.
