| Hello Experts!
I'm experiencing an error when opening Windows Explorer. The start button and taskbar will be gone. Then I can not access anything. Right click from the desktop will be disable also. My only way to get it back to work it normal is to restart or shut it down and boot it up again and to do that, I have to Ctrl+Alt Del. I don't want to reformat it again. I'm using Windows vista Ultimate SP1.
Thanks for the help! |

| There's no simple fix for this. You need Windows Explorer to manage the desktop and the windows on it.
There have been Windows Updates that have addressed this, but I don't know which ones. So, the first thing you should do is ensure that you are current with all updates, including SP 3.
If that is the case, you will need to determine if a third-party product is causing this. To do that, you will have to run MSCONFIG, select the Startup tab, disable all the loaded programs, and individually recheck them, one at a time, rebooting each time, until the problem happens again. The last one rechecked is the culprit. You will have to do without that program, or see if there is a newer version that does not cause the problem.
