So I got a new hard drive and I was going to install Vista on it and then migrate my old data over. Anyway the vista disk will not read in windows nor will it boot. I know the drives are good since it reads/writes other disks and I even tried a different vista disk and same problem. So any ideas?
It's vista 64 home premium and my dvd drives are nec.

You say the NEC drive(s) won't read the Vista DVD, so what kind of errors are you seeing?

Sorry to ask an obvious question, but you're sure your optical drives are DVD readers, not just CD readers?

It just acts like there isn't a disk in the drive. Yes I'm sure they're dvd drives but I can understand why you would ask.

Sorry for a couple of other obvious questions ...

You're sure you have your BIOS set to boot from the DVD drive?

And, you're sure you have the DVD loaded in the boot drive?

(Asking because I was called upon to fix a similar problem, the person had two DVD drives, and the system was set to boot from the second DVD drive, not the one actually containing the DVD. Easy mistake to make if the drives are the same model).

hello dear

sometimes back I saw this problem

some kind of disks are not readable by some drives, if your dvd is shown as emty in windows and also you can not boot from it , it seems to check another dvd type.

be success
