| Did a file and user transfer from old Windows XP to new PC running Vista, via Easy transfer cable and software. I've noticed a couple of duplicate folders. My Music and Music, My Pictures and Pictures etc. The My Music would not allow me to open it so I checked the properties and unticked deny. Both My Music and Music seem to be duplicates of each other. Given that iTunes is an 82Gb sub-folder in both folders I would like to get rid of one. Is it safe to delete the My... foldersBy the way I've left My Pictures, My video as unaccessible currently |

| The "MY ..." folders in Vista are not folders in the usual sense; they are something that MS calls "junctions". These are soft links to the real folders, which exist down under \Roaming.
Be careful attempting to delete any of these folders. The "junctions" are where Vista expects to find files and the default location for saving files. Removing them could corrupt the Vista installation. Also, to see if the folders really are duplicates of each other, add a new text file to one of the folders, and confirm it then exists when you examine the "duplicate" folder. I think you'll find that it does not exist. In that case, it would be safe to remove the files that really are duplicates. But, I would not remove the folders.
