Heres the issue.

My laptop runs great with vista & sky internet. If the router is already powered on, I can boot up the lappy and it automatically connects wirelessly to my isp etc.

Now if I forget to turn on the router if its been off for a while and boot up the lappy THEN switch on the router the lappy will simply not pick up the sky wireless.  Ive tried all the connect disconnect settings etc, ive tried the diagnose feature but it wont find it until I power down the lappy and restart it with the router already on..........So whos gonna give me the answer to this daft problem.

thanks sweet people

Dan

Thats kind of odd but not that odd. What you could try is turning the router off after making sure it is on and then turning it on again. I don't know if that will help but it is worth a try.

How come you turn your router off in the first place?

Couldn't tell from your posting, but have you tried manually connecting to the router via Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center --> Connect to a Network? If so, is the network supported by your router even listed? Is your wireless router broadcasting the SSID? Is Network Discovery turned on?

hi, just reading your reply. I dont like leaving the wireless on all the time as We have small children in the house and there are concerns about the saftey of wireless etc ....

anyhow, i have checked the router, the ssid is enabled,as is network discovery in the services.

If I try to manually connect after booting up the lappy if i forgot to switch on the router it simply does not find it, nor is the network showing... its a bit odd.  I will say over the months I play about with the services turning items on and off to try and speed up vista a bit.Maybe I shut off a service too many? to stop it finding a late powering up router?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah -- the services could contribute to the problem.

The link below points you to an excellent source of info on Vista service tuning:

Have you tried turning your wireless card on/off using its switch after the router has been turned on?
